MEDITATION & MINDFULNESS MCLE – TUES, 1/29

Join us for a 2-hour panel that qualifies for hard-to-get Substance Abuse MCLE credit. The panel will focus on how to bring mindfulness to social justice activism and the law. Panelists will focus on techniques like meditation, empathy and awareness of group dynamics.

Who: All are welcome; the more, the merrier!
What: MCLE panel discussion on mindfulness in social justice advocacy, guided meditation, and Q&A.
When: Tuesday, 1/29, 6pm-8pm
Where: Downtown UCLA Labor Center,
Cost: Free; or $25 Donation for MCLE credit (waived for active 2019 members)

Panelist Bios:
  • Victor Narro: Victor Narro is an NLG-LA board member and nationally known expert on the workplace rights of immigrant workers. He has been involved with immigrant rights and labor issues for many years, and is currently Project Director for the UCLA Downtown Labor Center. Narro is the author of many law review and journal articles. More recently, Narro published Living Peace: Connecting Your Spirituality with Your Work for Justice (CreateSpace Publishing 2014), and the Spanish language version, Paz en Accion: Conecta tu espiritualidad con tu trabajo por la justicia social (2015).
  • Tarek Shawky: Tarek is a solo practice criminal defense attorney and former public defender in LA and Riverside counties. Tarek is a member of the Muslim Bar Association, Arab American Bar, NLG, ACLU Foothill Branch and Pasadena Committee for Civilian Police Oversight.
  • Angie Vroom: Angie Vroom is a mother and teacher of Vedic Meditation and other consciousness-expanding practices. An adventurer with autodidactic tendencies who is intimately familiar with mysticism and cynicism, her desire for wisdom has taken her from Harvard to the Himalayas. With over a decade’s experience meditating and teaching, and with experience running retreats around the world, she brings wit, clarity, and intelligence to her classes. Angie’s compassion, curiosity, and non-dogmatic perspective allow her to create a space in which anyone can experience how simple and powerful meditation can be.
