Meet NLG-LA’s New Executive Director

The National Lawyers Guild of Los Angeles is thrilled to welcome Krithika Santhanam as our new Executive Director. Krithika joined NLG-LA in 2020 as the head of the Mass Defense Committee, to oversee the organization’s criminal defense and legal support work on behalf of protestors and movement partners. Before joining NLG-LA, Krithika served as a staff attorney at Advancement Project National Office in Washington, D.C., providing legal and policy support to grassroots organizations across the country working to end the criminalization of communities of color and abolish police and policing infrastructure from public schools. Prior to her position at Advancement Project, Krithika was an associate at Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer LLP, where she maintained an active pro bono practice focused on education justice and criminalization issues. Krithika’s background is in youth organizing, and she began her public interest career working in Boyle Heights as the Director of Youth Development at Legacy LA. While there, Krithika helped create the organization’s flagship youth leadership program which provides political education workshops and community organizing training designed to catalyze young people to become advocates for social, racial, and economic justice. Krithika is passionate about movement lawyering and deeply committed to the Guild’s role in providing legal support to its movement partners and all those working to dismantle oppressive systems and organize toward abolition.
