NLG-LA Files Federal Lawsuit on Behalf of Street Vendors

On Wednesday, October 28th, street vendors from MacArthur Park and the Downtown Fashion District filed a lawsuit against the LAPD and Fashion District Business Improvement District (BID) for illegally seizing and destroying vendors’ carts, dollies, and other personal belongings.

On Saturday, September 19, 2015, led by Cynthia Anderson Barker, NLG-LA members Colleen Flynn, Ken Montenegro, Daniel Ortiz, and Gilbert Saucedo were on the streets of the LA Fashion District investigating abuses against street vendors and performing legal intakes. The very next day, Sunday, September 20, street vendors were assaulted and their property confiscated by officers of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Division and civilian employees of the Fashion District Business Improvement District (BID). .
