On Saturday, September 12th, a diverse crowd of several hundred protesters marched from Hollywood and Vine to the front of the Mann Chinese Theater on Hollywood Blvd., protesting the escalating destruction of planet Earth's livability. Organized by the ANSWER Coalition and the prestigious California Center for Biodiversity, and endorsed by numerous other environmental groups, as well as other progressive groups, the themes of the day included the issue of poverty and racial injustice as well as the issue of climate change.
Several speakers at the rally, including the L.A. Guild's Executive Director Emeritus, Jim Lafferty, stressed the connection between capitalism's role in creating both climate change and poverty.
This was the first such climate change protest in L.A., and many of the protesters spoke of the need for more and larger climate change protests here. In this regard it was reported that the organizers of the protest were in touch with the organization "350", the group that organized a march and rally of over 100,000 people In New York City last year, and are now considering another big national climate change action in 2016, including a possible companion march and rally here in Los Angeles at the same time.
